In 2026, the Skye Half Marathon & 10K celebrated its 42nd year, continuing a remarkable tradition that has made it one of Scotland's most iconic road races and a true bucket-list event for runners from across the UK and beyond.

What began in 1984 with a conversation in a local pub has grown into one of the highlights of the Scottish running calendar. That first race saw 140 runners take on the challenge of the roads around Portree, laying the foundations for an event that now attracts hundreds of competitors and thousands of supporters each year.

The inaugural men's winner was Michael McCulloch, who crossed the finish line in 1:16:31. In the women's race, Elaine Hernon and Susanne McCahill shared victory, both recording a time of 1:54:45.

Today, the race remains true to its roots while offering a modern, professionally organised experience. The course has evolved over the years and is now a certified 13.1-mile half marathon, run almost entirely on closed roads, allowing participants to enjoy some of the most spectacular scenery in Scotland in safety.

From the bustling start and finish in Portree to the rolling roads, dramatic coastal views and warm island welcome, the Skye Half Marathon offers a unique running experience that combines challenge, beauty and community spirit.

In 2023, following popular demand, we introduced the Skye 10K, opening the event to even more runners and creating a fantastic festival of running on race day.

The current course records on the revised route introduced in 2013 are held by:

🏆 Men: Cameron Milne – 1:09:10 (2018)
🏆 Women: Rachel Haines – 1:23:32 (2019)

Whether you're chasing a personal best, ticking off a bucket-list race, or simply looking for an unforgettable day of running in the Hebrides, we'd love to welcome you to Skye and become part of our story.
