For 2024 we celebrated the 40th Anniversary of the Skye Half Marathon, the undisputed king or queen of half marathons in the wild and beautiful Hebrides - and what a day it was. This race is more than just a run; it's a testament to the amazing island community that started it all with some good old-fashioned pub chat four decades ago - the birth of this legendary bucket list route. SIGN UP TO JOIN US FOR 2025, ON SATURDAY 25TH JUNE. Be part of the story.
The very first race was back in1984 when 140 runners took on the challenge. The first champion across the finish line, Michael McCulloch, clocked in at an impressive 1:16:31. For the ladies, it was a tie between Elaine Hernon and Susanne Mccahill, who both smashed the course in 1:54:45.
Fast forward to today, and the course is slightly shorter. It used to be a lung-busting 13.8 miles back in the day. These days it's a challenging half marathon distance with a full road closure for your safety. 13.1 miles of scenic Scotland at its best where you'll race alongside hundreds of national and international competitors.
Current records over the half marathon course revised in 2013 are held by Cameron Milne (1:09:10) and Rachel Haines (1:23:32). The 10K was introduced for the first time, in response to popular request, in 2023.
