Plant a Tree
Offset your carbon by planting a tree. We are proud to attract runners from all over the world to our small Island. However, we want to offer our participants an affordable opportunity to reduce the impact of their journeys and so in 2021 we launched our Isle of Skye Half Marathon Tree Grove. Our Grove now has 157 trees. For participants needing to travel, or just wanting to help with the planet you can buy a tree for just £6 to be planted in our Grove.
Our trees will help to rewild the Caledonian Forest, a rich habitat found only in the Scottish Highlands. It will be a sapling grown from locally collected seed and will be one of a number of species we plant such as Scots pine, willow, birch, rowan, hazel, alder, holly, aspen and bird cherry. Your tree will be planted at Dundreggan, an estate near Loch Ness in beautiful Glenmoriston. The rich diversity of wildlife habitats at Dundreggan includes ancient Caledonian pinewoods and superb birch and juniper woodlands. With mires, wetlands and wildflower meadows, Dundreggan is a haven for wildlife. Over 4,000 species have been discovered there, with some found nowhere else in the UK.
You can even visit our grove on your way to Skye where they also have a new Rewilding Centre at Dundreggan Estate https://treesforlife.org.uk/.../dundreggan-rewilding-centre/
